The 2018 Ethiopian knock out cup winner were knocked out of the competition on Sunday December 06 2020 by Tunisian side Union Sportive Monastirienne.
The game at Addis Ababa international stadium finished 2-1 to Fasil Kenema, meaning the aggregate score of the two games was 3-2 to the Monastir team, who had won the first game 2-0. Despite Fasil Kenema being in the lead at the start and being dominant for the rest of normal time, they couldn’t find an all-important third goal.
The Tunisian side took advantage of a lack of concentration by Fasil Kenema’s players to score a vital away goal in the last period of the game, and then made the most of Fasil Kenema trying to find a winner to score two more.
Surafel Dagnachew’s and Mujib Qassim’s 2 goals gave the lead to the host. On the 76th minute an incident happened that is taken as game changing. US Monastri’s Fahmi Ben Romdhane clashed with Fasil Kenema’s goal keeper Michael Samaki and the game interrupted for about 14 minutes. It was a head clash and it looks hard. Both players got first aid treatment on the pitch and taken to hospital.
5minutes after the restart of the game US Monastri’s Fedy Arfaoui’s header went to the back of the net and helped the visitors to progress to the next round. On the next round the Tunisian team US monastri will play to Libya’s side Al Ahli Tripoli
