Wubetu Abate named new Ethiopia national team coach

Wubetu Abate was appointed coach of Ethiopia on Monday, September 28, 2020, to fill the void left by Abraham Mebrehatu, who recently ends his contract with the Waliya Ibex.
The federation said the Wubetu Abate signed a contract until 2022. Coach Wubetu Abate took a responsibility to Qualify the national team for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, that will be held in 2022 and to progress the national team to the last playoff of the world cup qualifiers and to make the national team one of the best 10 teams in Africa.

On the announcement of the new coach, it is stated that the coach will earn 224,000 Ethiopian birr gross salary and 125,000 Ethiopian birr net salary per month, with additional bonuses and benefits.

“Although I did not expect it, I am glad that I was given this great responsibility and that I have come to the place I have been looking for since I was a child.” Said the coach on the press conference. “It’s very difficult to get players together in a short period of time. For that, to gather players who were out of action for 7 months.” Added the coach. Finally the coach promised “I will try to keep the same attitude I had shown at club level in the national team.”

Ethiopia is second place in Group K of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, 3 points behind leaders Madagascar, which had 6points.
