The final group stage games of Group A were held today (1/17/2022) and separates the teams to go through the next stage and the eliminated ones.
on Kouekong Stadium, Burkina Faso face Ethiopia. Before the game both teams come to the game with a hope. A win or a draw and defeat or draw for cape verde for the Stallions was enough, but for the Waliyas a 2-0 win and Cape verde’s lose to Cameroon was the only hope.
The first minutes of the game was a little bit slow. Both teams wants to control the game, and if the opposition has some open space, they want to use that space. Ethiopian’s were the first to test the opposition goal keeper. On the 10th minite of the game Getaneh Kebede’s shot was brilliantly saved by Burkina faso’s goal keeper Farid Odorog. After this attempt the Stallions tries to create chances, but they didn’t succeeded. On the 24th minute Ethiopia’s striker Dawa Huttesa generate a shot from out side the box, but the goal keeper tries to catch it, then Abubeker Nassir couldn’t reach to the rebound ball.
The first goal of the game came on the 25th minute of the game. Burkina Faso’s Adama Goira’s long ball finds, Baros Bayala, then he lobbed the goal keeper to put the ball on the back of the net and put his team on the front feet. On the 35th minute theWaliyas were near to score the equalizer, but the keeper denied Getaneh Kebede’s effort. With this be the last attempt of the match, the first half closed by the Stallions lead.
7minutes after the restart, on minute 52, the Waliyas gota penalty and the Captain Getaneh Kebede converted it and put his team level. After this goal some attempts were there from both team, but nither of them were converted to goal and the game ends with 1-1.
In another game of Group A, hosts Cameroon were held by Cape Verde and the game endede 1-1. Following those results Cameroon and Burkina Faso go the next round with 7 and 4 points respectively. Cape Verde will wait to be best 3rd with 4 points and Ethiopia were eliminated with only 1 points.
