Football in Ethiopia is officially back. The BetKing Premier League has begun today after exactly nine months. The new season has held two matches today in the Capital.
The premier league committee announced last week BetKing as the official title sponsor of the premier league. The League committee has also revealed DSTV as the official media partner.
In the inaugural match, Sebeta Ketema was held 0-0 by Dire Dawa Ketema. The former national team coach Abraham Mebrahtu headed a premier league club in Ethiopia after nearly a decade.
In the second match of the day, Kidus Giorgis were defeated by Fasil Kenema. Fasil’s point man Mujib Kassim netted the ball to inscribe his name as the first goal scorer of the historic premier league.
All the first mid-season matches are held in only three venues. Both matches today were held in the capital, Addis Ababa respecting the health protocols of Covid-19.
The stadium doors are not yet open for supporters. However, DSTV gave a live coverage of most of the matches.
